Text to speech app for iPad
VoiceRead is a text to speech app for iPad that reads PDFs, ebooks, web articles and your own text aloud, highlighting each sentence as it goes. It's the same app as on iPhone, works in portrait and landscape, and needs no account.

Read along on a screen that fits the page.
Large text, one highlighted sentence.
The sentence being read lights up and the page scrolls to keep it in view. Tap any sentence to start from there, or add a note that's pinned to it and jump back to it later.
Your documents are already on your iPad.
VoiceRead opens files through the Files app, so whatever you keep in iCloud Drive, Google Drive or Dropbox is a tap away. PDFs need a text layer and EPUBs need to be DRM-free. Google Docs work once exported as DOCX, PDF or TXT.
Voiceovers you make in Studio go the other way: save them to a folder in Files or share them straight to another app.
- PDF: textbooks, papers and contracts
- EPUB: ebooks without DRM
- DOCX and TXT: documents and notes
- Web articles: from a pasted link

iPad questions
- Is VoiceRead free on iPad?
- Yes. Reading with the standard voices is unlimited and needs no account. Pro is $2.99 a week or $49.99 a year, with a free trial. Pricing.
- Do I pay again for iPad if I have Pro on iPhone?
- No. Pro works on every iPhone and iPad signed in with the same Apple ID. If it doesn't appear, tap Restore purchase in Settings.
- Does my library sync between iPhone and iPad?
- Not yet. Documents, notes and your place stay on the device where you added them. iCloud sync of progress is coming soon. Keep files in iCloud Drive to open them on both.
- Can an iPad read aloud without an app?
- Yes. Speak Selection and Speak Screen in Accessibility settings read what's on screen. They don't keep a document library or your place across files, and they can't export audio. VoiceRead adds those.
- Which iPads are supported?
- Any iPad running iPadOS 17 or later.
- Is there a Mac or Android version?
- VoiceRead is made for iPhone and iPad. Macs with Apple silicon can install the iPad version from the Mac App Store, but it isn't optimized for the Mac yet. An Android version is coming soon; there's no Windows or web app.
